Ask your local leaders (checked October 19, 2026)
Questions for your city council member or county supervisor
- Does our county hold a TRUTH Act forum each year? When and where is the next one? Will there be interpreters?
- How many ICE notification or transfer requests did our jail get last year, and how many did it honor?
- Does our city or county limit immigration enforcement on its property, like parks, clinics and libraries?
- What does our city or county do to keep license plate and camera data away from federal agencies?
- Does our city or county fund free legal help for residents facing deportation?
- Does it fund a rapid response hotline? (San Mateo: (203) 666-4472. Santa Clara: (408) 290-1144.)
- Are city and county forms and meetings offered in our community's languages?
- Has our school district adopted the Attorney General's model policy?
What state law already requires
- Local police may not ask about status, hold people for ICE, or act as ICE agents (Values Act)
- Jails must give people a copy of any ICE request and a consent form before an ICE interview (TRUTH Act)
- An annual public forum if local police gave ICE access in the past year (TRUTH Act)
- Public schools, public clinics and courthouses must adopt the AG model policy or an equal one
