Questions to ask when you call
Before you call, have ready
- Your full name, a phone number and an email, if you have one
- Your city and county
- Any letter or notice from immigration or the court, with its dates
- Your A number, if you have one (it is on most immigration papers)
- A pen and this sheet
Ask them
- Do you help with my kind of case? (Say it simply: "I want to renew DACA," "I have a court date," "my husband was detained.")
- Who do you serve? Do I need to live in a certain county or have a certain income?
- Is the first meeting free? If not, how much is it?
- If you take my case, what will it cost in total? Is that separate from the government's fees?
- Will a lawyer or a DOJ accredited representative work on my case? What is their name?
- Do you have someone who speaks my language, or an interpreter?
- Is the meeting in person, by phone or by video? Where?
- What papers should I bring?
- How long until I can meet with someone?
- If you cannot help me, who should I call next?
Write down
- Who I spoke with: ____________________
- Date and time: ____________________
- Appointment: ____________________
- What to bring: ____________________

Never pay by gift card, wire transfer or payment app. Get a receipt for every payment. A real lawyer or accredited representative will tell you their name and let you check it.
