Getting ready under the 2025 and 2026 rules
Before I file
- I read every question on the N-400 and answered all of them truthfully.
- My addresses, jobs and trips on the form match my records.
- I asked two U.S. citizens who know me, not family, for character letters.
- Each letter has the writer's name, address, phone, email and proof of status, how they know me, real examples, and a statement about my character and the Constitution.
- I gathered proof of good things: work, school, family care, community service, taxes paid.
- If I ever registered to vote, voted, or said I was a citizen, I talked to a lawyer first.
- If I have any arrest, I talked to a lawyer first.
- I am studying the 2025 civics test (128 questions, need 12 of 20).
If an officer visits me or someone I know
- Ask for the officer's name and USCIS identification.
- Do not pay anyone money.
- Write down the date, name and what was asked.
- Tell my lawyer or legal clinic.
