My papers, my choice
A printable from Work Papers Fact Sheet. Fill it in by hand. Nothing you write is collected by this website.
My papers, my choice
When I am hired
- I show one List A paper, or one List B paper plus one List C paper.
- I choose which ones. My employer cannot pick for me.
If my employer asks for something else, I can say:
- "I chose these documents from the Form I-9 lists."
- "Can you show me in writing what rule requires a different document?"
- "I would like to talk with someone before I give anything else."
Recheck is normal when my work permit is about to expire. I can show any valid List A or List C paper.
Write down: date ________ who asked ________ what they asked for ________ what I showed ________
Never rechecked: a green card, a U.S. passport, or the List B paper (like a driver's license) I used to show who I am.
E-Verify mismatch: I get a Further Action Notice. I can keep working while I fix it. I have 8 federal working days to contact DHS or Social Security after I choose to fix it.
Call: Department of Justice worker hotline 1-800-255-7688 (within 180 days) ยท Legal Aid at Work (415) 404-9093
Do not write your immigration status on this card.
