Green card holder checklist
Every day
- I carry my green card (18 and older)
- I keep a copy, front and back, at home
My card
- My card expires on: ____________. I will file Form I-90 within 6 months before that date.
- Two year card? I know when to file to remove conditions.
When I move
- I update my address with USCIS within 10 days (online account or Form AR-11)
- I also update with the post office
Before I travel
- Trip length: ______ days. Under 6 months if I plan to apply for citizenship.
- Over 1 year? I filed for a reentry permit before leaving.
- Any arrest, charge or conviction, ever? I talked with a lawyer first.
- I carry my valid green card and passport.
Never
- Never claim to be a U.S. citizen on any form
- Never vote or register to vote unless I become a citizen
- Never sign Form I-407 unless I truly want to give up my green card
If I am arrested
- I tell my defense lawyer I am not a citizen
- I do not take a plea until I understand its immigration effect
