Take this to the school office
What to bring
- One paper with your child's age (birth certificate from any country, baptism certificate, passport, or your signed statement)
- One or more papers with your address (lease, rent receipt, utility bill, pay stub, government letter, or your signed statement)
- Shot records
- Report cards or records from the last school, if you have them
- IEP or 504 plan, if your child has one
- Your photo ID (consular ID or passport is fine)
If they ask about immigration status or papers
"I understand the school does not need immigration information to enroll my child. I would like to enroll my child today using these papers for age and address."
If they ask for a Social Security number
"We will leave that blank. The Attorney General says a Social Security number is never needed to enroll."
If you are missing a paper
"What else can I use? Can my child start while I get it?"
If you have no stable place to live
"We do not have stable housing right now. Can I talk to the homeless liaison? My child can enroll today under McKinney Vento."
Write down: date, school, name of the person you spoke with, and what they said.
Do not write your immigration status on this sheet.
