Before you speak or post about suicide, check each line.
Include
- 988 (call or text), and a local or text line if I have one
- A message that help works and people recover
- Who to talk to in our group, with a name or number
- Respectful words: "died by suicide"
Leave out
- How or where the person died
- Photos of the place, notes, or last posts
- One simple reason for the death
- Words like "epidemic," "committed," "successful" or "failed"
- Anything that makes the death sound brave, peaceful, or like a way out
After a death
- The family agreed to what we share
- Counselors or trusted adults are ready to talk with people
- Someone is watching comments and replies
- We know who is close to the person and checking on them
